This is the second time I am saying this in the space of two weeks. First time it was the sabji wallah and today it was at the bank. I am not complaining, I think humans like to categorise to make sense of the world and while there are offensive and oppresive extremes that categroisation can lead to, this is not one such.
I categorise people too. I seem to subconciously know whom to use English with and whom to use my shaky Hindi (aaargh why do objects have gender????) with. What is the Bengali look anyway?

i had a Bangladeshi friend who had green eyes - people were always going, "What??? You're from BD?You dont look like you're from BD." It made me mad on her behalf.
