A time when NAM meant something

Gamal Abdel Nasser Marg*
Nelson Mandela Marg
Africa Avenue
Josip Broz Tito Marg
Simon Bolivar Marg

*Marg means Road in Hindi

These are the names of some roads in Delhi. There is a history that is common to all these roads. The history of the non-aligned movement (NAM) and third world solidarity, one of Nehru's pet projects. It lies mostly in shambles now and people in positions of power no longer talk about enhancing south-to-south links. But the names remain, mute testaments to a time when much of the world was almost created anew after colonialism and there was so much more optimism and hope.

hey good to know about the Kichdi:-)
While not seeking to romanticise a glorious past, I cannot but help think that there must have been more optimism then than now.
